In October 2012, two concerts were presented at Beihang University (in Beijing), with a programme devised by the Palazzetto Bru Zane<\/a> – Centre de musique romantique fran\u00e7aise, a centre created by the Fondation Bru in Venice and devoted to the rediscovery of French composers of the years 1780\u20131920 and their works.<\/p>\n

The concert given on 24 October was reserved for students and teaching staff of the \u00c9cole Centrale Beijing<\/a>. The programme included works by D\u00e9odat de S\u00e9verac, Mel Bonis, Th\u00e9odore Dubois, Florent Schmitt and Claude Debussy, performed by the pianist David Violi.<\/p>\n

Some of these pieces were included in a second concert, two days later, given as part of Beihang University\u2019s 60th-anniversary celebrations. On that occasion they were followed by a Mozart piano concerto performed by the Beihang University Symphony Orchestra, made up of students, with David Violi as soloist.<\/p>\n

This concert, organised in gratitude to Beihang for its commitment to the \u00c9cole Centrale Beijing, illustrates the Fondation Bru\u2019s keen interest in the rediscovery of a forgotten French musical heritage and also the University\u2019s desire to make an important contribution towards bringing together the two different cultures \u2013 Beihang recently inaugurated its \u201cResearch and Study Centre for France\u201d, with support from the Chinese Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n
